ICC, Birmingham

MPD Pumps engineers working inside a subterranean wet well chamber at the ICC Birmingham.

Project Requirements

The ICC, part of the NEC Group, approached MPD Pumps to completely refurbish an existing pump station. The existing pipework, pumps, guide rails, chains and control panels had become obsolete after years of service and required full refurbish two deep control stations to restore the reliability and performance of the system.

Old submersible pump system and worn guide rails before ICC Birmingham upgrade.

Our Approach

Before work commenced, MPD Pumps carried out a detailed site survey to plan the refurbishment. The project required specialist crane and tanker support, with all works undertaken by confined space-trained engineers. Following gas monitoring and safety checks, the existing equipment was carefully removed before new pipework, guide rails, chains, control panels and pumps were installed to modernise the pumping system.

The Result

MPD Pumps successfully delivered a complete pump station refurbishment, replacing ageing infrastructure with modern equipment designed to improve reliability, and allow cloud based pump monitoring to track performance.
