Bowmer & Kirkland approached MPD Pumps to develop a solution for reducing the height of a wet well and valve chamber for 250mm pipework at a large surface water pump station. As part of a new access road development, the existing pump station needed to be lowered by 1,200mm, requiring the existing 250mm valve chamber to be redesigned.

The original proposal involved constructing a new valve chamber approximately 20 metres away. However, existing underground services made this approach impractical. MPD Pumps developed an alternative solution by redesigning the existing valve chamber using compact 250mm non-return valves, discharging into a newly constructed manhole within the existing layout.

By redesigning the existing valve chamber rather than constructing a new one, MPD Pumps provided a cost-effective solution that overcame site constraints, reduced construction time and minimised disruption, while meeting the project's engineering requirements.
